ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION OF CA’ CASTELLINA

ITALY - FAENZA

The archaeological site of Ca’ Castellina represents a precious testimony of the past, located in an area of great historical and cultural value.

Since its recent discovery, this archaeological site is bringing to light new evidence related to the processes of gypsum extraction, thanks to intense work carried out by volunteers and professionals coordinated by the Superintendence of Ravenna and the University of Bologna

To enhance and document this heritage with maximum precision, a complete 3D survey of the excavation was created, using cutting-edge technologies in the field of digital archaeological documentation.

The archaeological excavation site of Cà Castellina in 3D

Through the photogrammetric and laser scanner surveys that we have performed on this archaeological site, we are now able to study every detail and give anyone, especially researchers working on this project, the opportunity to virtually observe the results that have been brought to light to date.

Thanks to the use of high-precision 3D laser scanners and aerial photogrammetry via drone, it was possible to capture every detail of the site with millimetric resolution. The data collected was processed to generate:

High-density point clouds;

Photorealistic 3D models;

Orthoimages and sections useful for archaeological study and scientific publication
