In the heart of the Ampezzane Dolomites, at an altitude of 2,940 metres between Piz Conturines and Cima Lavarella, lies one of the most extraordinary cavities in Europe: the Abisso Cenote delle Dolomiti.
This glacial abyss, some 298 metres deep, emerged following the natural emptying of a lake located in a vast dolina. Its discovery dates back to 1994, but it was only in 2010 that it was explored to its maximum depth.
Since 2015, a scientific monitoring project has led to the creation of a detailed three-dimensional survey of the abyss, in which we used ground-based laser scanners and drones. These tools have allowed us to precisely map the entire underground system, providing fundamental data for studies on climate change and glacier dynamics.
The main hall of the cavity measures 120 metres long and 36 metres wide, with a volume of over 200,000 cubic metres, making it the largest underground hall in the Dolomites.

For an immersive experience, you can explore the 3D model of the Cenote Abyss of the Dolomites that we have created.
This model offers a detailed representation of the cavity, allowing you to appreciate its majesty and geological complexity.
