NEPTUNE’S CAVE

ITALY - ALGHERO

Framed by the imposing cliffs of Capo Caccia, Neptune’s Grotto is one of the most fascinating and mysterious places in Sardinia. A journey inside is a breathtaking experience: an underground world sculpted by nature over millions of years, among stalactites, stalagmites and crystalline pools of water.

You can reach the cave by sea or by descending the famous 654 steps of the Escala del Cabirol, a breathtaking staircase carved into the rock, with spectacular views of the Gulf of Alghero.

3D scanning inside the cave

As part of a scientific research project carried out in collaboration with the CNR (National Council of Research) of Sassari, we created the three-dimensional survey of this cave using laser scanners and digital photogrammetry techniques to reconstruct with extreme accuracy the entire system of cavities, stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes. The result? A detailed three-dimensional model that allows us to study, document and enhance the underground environment like never before.

This survey is essential for environmental monitoring inside the cave as well as for carrying out scientific studies and research on karst morphologies.

Furthermore, the 3D survey is a fundamental tool for tourism promotion as it allows us to create immersive experiences accessible to anyone and from anywhere in the world!
