Re Tiberio cave

The Grotta del Re Tiberio is certainly one of the best known and studied caves in the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola due to the presence of archaeological evidence that attest to man’s frequentation for several millennia. Already from the entrance you can admire numerous artificial niches, real drinking troughs dug into the rock.

Over 4 kilometers long, the cave of King Tiberius is easily accessible in the first initial section while the lower branches of the cave are characterized by the presence of wells and bottlenecks and can only be traveled by experienced speleologists, equipped with adequate equipment.

We have made the three-dimensional survey with laserscanning technology and video-photo documentation with 360 ° cameras as part of a research project promoted by the Speleological Federation of the Emilia Romagna Region in collaboration with the University of Bologna – Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences
